Why Are Extended Car Warranties such a Good Idea The average warranty on a new car offered by vehicle manufacturers is generally
60,000 miles or three years. But what happens once that time period or mileage
is up? To avoid having to pay from their own pockets if the car has a mechanical
or electrical problem, it makes financial sense for motorists to look into extended
car warranties.
Why extend the warranty at all? Isn’t it simply a waste of money that
could be spent elsewhere? Research has shown that almost half of motorists who
opt for warranty cover actually go on to make a claim. Bearing in mind the average
cost of a repair is around £350 and often much more, while buying a car
warranty can be half that amount, then the premium could soon pay for itself.
Meanwhile, owners of second-hand cars which are out of warranty are statistically
more likely to have some kind of problem with their vehicles and therefore more
likely to benefit from extended car warranties.
Perhaps even more important for drivers than the obvious financial advantages
is the feeling of peace of mind that having this kind of insurance gives. Knowing
that if something goes wrong with the car there will be no massive costs involved
is a load off the already sagging shoulders of the beleaguered motorist.
